Intersection of the Three Characteristics and Love

When
Date(s): July 1, 2023 - July 2, 2023
9:30 am - 4:00 pm (Saturday and Sunday)

Location
UCSB Campus

The three characteristics of existence – impermanence, incompleteness, and selflessness – occupy a special place in the Insight Meditation tradition. Understanding these aspects of experience helps us let go into deep wisdom. While classically considered wisdom teachings, these understandings are supported by love, and leave love in their wake. During this weekend, we’ll explore the intersections between core wisdom teachings and the heart. The weekend will include sitting and walking meditation, guided practice, dharma talks and time for dialogue. All are welcome.

Matthew Brensilver, MSW, PhD, serves on the Guiding Teachers Committee and Board of Directors at Spirit Rock Meditation Center. He was previously Program Director for Mindful Schools and for more than a decade was a core teacher at Against the Stream Buddhist Meditation Society. He offers retreats regularly at both Spirit Rock and the Insight Retreat Center. Before committing to teach meditation full-time, he spent years doing research on addiction pharmacotherapy at the UCLA Center for Behavioral and Addiction Medicine and continues to be interested in the unfolding dialog between dharma and science. He is the co-author of two books about meditation during adolescence. Matthew’s teaching is full of warmth and wisdom, and we’re very fortunate to have him here with us.
